Forbidden Passion: 20

Asibi screamed before she caught herself. There were still a few customers left, five to be precise but three of them whom she assumed were friends were in the photography section of the studio. Only two of them were in the makeup area and they were both being attended to by Ayesha and one of her makeup artists.

One of them turned to look at her, obviously irritated by the scream and she quietly mouthed sorry to her before excusing herself to the small room Ayesha used as her office, the same place she now shared with her. As she was leaving she heard Ayesha mouthing a quick apology to both customers for the fright she had caused.

Three hours later just as the sun had set, Ayesha retired to the office. That was the end of that day's work except her VIP customers showed or maybe there were just too many customers for her workers would she stay up until 9 pm, the closing time.

“What was that about?”
She asked as soon as she entered the office. Asibi knew she owed her not just an apology but a good explanation for what she did. Ayesha's face had an unreadable expression making it difficult for Asibi to know what was going on in her friend's mind.

“I'm so sorry kawa. I was just too excited to realise quickly enough that I had screamed out. Look...”

She said, unlocking her phone screen and passing it to Ayesha.

“I got the job!”
Ayesha's face brightened up as soon as she read what was on the screen. An email from the company Asibi attended their job interview a few weeks ago.

“MashaAllah, this is great news. I'm so happy for you.”
She said excitedly and gave her friend a brief hug before handing back the phone to her.

“I didn’t expect this to click. You know I told you I fumbled at the interview. My test result was a bit good but that of the interview was woeful.” Asibi narrated. Remembering the disappointed look in one of the interviewer's eyes, others simply looked bored after she answered a few questions.

“Whatever is yours won't pass you by, dear. Remember I told you not to worry about it. See!

“Yes...” Then Asibi paused as the possibility of something occurred to her.

“Did your customer influence the hiring process?”
Ayesha shook her. “I don't think so. We spoke two days ago and she asked if you got the job but that was because the other two people she informed about the interview didn’t get the job.”

“Hmmm...” Well, anything was possible Asibi thought. Hajiya Turai was one of the regulars at the studio and a long time customer of Ayesha. When Ayesha had mentioned that Asibi was looking for a job, she had mentioned that a company was secretly hiring and had helped with details about the interview.

“Still, thank her for me.

Ayesha nodded and then said

“May this be the start of greater things for you. All those village people lurking in the dark, trying to murk things up will fail this time.”

Asibi chuckled
“Village people indeed” before saying “Amen, thanks a lot Esh dear.”

She had no doubt, that her friend would be there for her even if this one failed again but for herself and her sanity, she prayed this worked. It just needed to work.

Saturday Digest: Life of an Abeokuta Corper

I am a corp member currently serving in Abeokuta city of Ogun State.  Today I am giving you some major things I have observed since I was posted to the city to obey the clarion call. Well it’s more like things you need to know about the city and its people. Other corp members I have spoken to about these have also confirmed it. Yes, they’ve noticed these things too.  Topography This is not strange. The name Abeokuta literally means under the rock or beneath/below the stone, so one wouldn’t be surprised if the whole city is rocky. There are lots of rocks everywhere that I kept thinking Olumo is scattered everywhere not until

LOVE TO BINGE WATCH? HERE ARE FIVE WEB SERIES TO START WITH

G one are the days when the only place to watch series is on a cable network and local stations. Nowadays one is spoilt for choice with varieties of series on the internet, found on streaming platforms like Netflix, Showmax, Amazon prime video, Irokotv and so on. Usually watching movies and TV series is only possible with a subscription fee that is mostly charged monthly and some streaming apps, also offer yearly plan and then you need a solid data plan.  Meaning you get to incur expenses in two ways; a subscription to access the movies and a data plan to be able to watch the movies, which to some people is a total waste of money, especially in places like Nigeria where data plans are still very expensive. In recent times, there has been an upsurge of alternatives to the series on subscription-based platforms called web series. As the internet involves and the demands of consumers increased so as the contents being churned out refined. These days you can watch quality movies and serie
