Forbidden Passion: 3

“Hello beautiful”  Yasmin heard Lisa said the moment she opened her eyes but her throat felt patchy and she badly needed water. “Water.” She mouthed, the words came out like a faintly but her friend heard her and she stood up quickly to fetch her water from the water dispenser at the other side of the room. She came to her bedside and helped her sit before giving her the water to drink. Lisa threw the disposable cup into the dustbin near the door when she was done before going back to help her lie down. Yasmin shook her head slightly before saying.

“I have been in that position for two days. Please, just let me sit for a while.” Lisa was relieved to hear her friend say more words than she had in the previous days. She had been giving her only one word replies and sentences since she regained consciousness.

“I know, but I think you should rest some more.” She suggested.

Lisa had received a call two days ago at her workplace that Yasmin was rushed to the hospital. The words accident and hospital had scared her out of her senses. “Please, let her live.” the words of prayer was on lips throughout the drive to the hospital. She was already close to tears by the time she got to the front desk and a nurse had directed her to the Patient ward. She sighted a young man probably in his mid thirties coming out of an office followed closely by an equally young doctor. The man had identified himself as the caller and had briefly narrated what happened. The doctor had explained that her friend mostly suffered minor road burns, a shallow cut to the side of her head and a sprain to the ankle. She had also fainted at the scene of the accident due to shock. She had been given injections and her wounds dressed.

Yasmin was asleep when she entered the room, so she had settled her self on the long light blue leather sofa at one corner of the large room. Lisa had watched her friend sleep for hours before sleeping off herself and when she woke up, it had been to help her friend get out of the bed to go to the toilet, and then eat and drink. Yasmin had not ate much but she drank a lot of water. She sat for some minutes before Lisa helped her back into a comfortable lying position. The rest of the night passed quickly and none of them woke up until the day was bright.

The following morning one of the nurses had come in to check her vitals and gave her, her medication. The doctor had come in an hour later to assess her and everything looked good. She had no internal injury or anything they should be worried about. The few injuries she had were first degree injuries and very minor. Though she was still to be kept on observation for a day or two. Lisa, though grateful for all the quality healthcare her friend was receiving at he hospital had that nagging question at the back of her mind since she found out her friend was fine.

“Hmm, doctor...” She looked at the name tag on his uniform and repeated “Dr. Douglas, I’ve been wondering about the bills...please, how much is it?”

It was better she knew now. It would help her decide whether to keep her friend here or not. From her experience, this kind of hospitals were very expensive. The comfort and top notch healthcare wouldn’t come for cheap. The young doctor gave her a knowing smile.

“You don’t need to worry about it. The man who brought her here has cleared the bills. We just want to be sure your friend is well enough to be discharged.”

Lisa thanked the doctor while still trying to wrap her head around what he just told her about the bills. She was grateful to be relieved of such burden she would get the phone number of the caller from the hospital to express her gratitude.

Later, she had gone home to change and also got her friend some change of clothes. She came back and met Yasmin’s colleagues Ben, Bimbo and some others she didn’t recognize. They all came to see Yasmin and brought along some food and fruits but Yasmin was fast asleep. She thanked them and promised to let her friend know they came whenever she woke up.

“When am I going home? I hate this springy bed.”
The doctor came in before she could get an answer from her friend. "How are you today, Yasmin?"

Even though she still wanted very much to be back home, she couldn’t help being calmed by the doctor’s friendly attitude towards her. “I’m a bit tired but much better than yesterday.” “Great, what about body pain or pain from the injuries?” He asked while examining the cut on her face and the other injuries? “Much better.” “Good. I can see they are healing properly. We will observe you for today and you should be discharged tomorrow to go back to your very comfy bed.” He said, smiling, making her know he heard that part of her conversation with Lisa. Well, tomorrow wasn’t that bad. She guessed she could wait.

...To be continued.
