The Negative Voice

Believe it or not, everyone one of us has a positive and a negative voice. It does not matter what you choose to call yours or what you see yours as, they are what they are. I like to see mine as friends; the friend who makes me feel I can be whatever I want to be once I set my mind to it and the friend who reminds me of my limitations.

The thing is we all love that voice, the one that fills us with power, the voice that gives us the energy to go out and own the world. With this voice every one of us is a conqueror of all our problems and obstacles. But we also need that voice of pause. The one that makes us stop a little, to think ( wait, is this going to work?)

Now, don't get me wrong. I know I called it the negative voice. Yes, it is. But only when you don't tame it or better put when you don't watch it!.. Like seriously, you need to watch this voice. You need to put it in check. Only when this voice gets out of hand, then it becomes a negative voice, hindering every progress you are about to make. It becomes that gravitational force that pulls you back anytime you are about to rise.

Don't let it, don't give it that power. It only get as strong as you allow it to be. I don't mean to sound like a preacher but that is the way it is.

It only gets as strong as you allow it to be.

Now, why is this voice called a negative voice?

Okay, I know I already mentioned that somewhere up, that the voice limits you, hinders your progress or becomes your obstacle. But that's not all. It has an end product. Something that is birthed by this voice. You can call it a negative energy and this can come in form of anger (angry that things are not working well for you. Angry at yourself, angry at people, angry at the government, angry at everything) Now, that is a whole lot of energy my friend. Why waste it on things you would regret doing later?

It can also come in form of depression.

You have been so angry with yourself, now you are so sad. You're tired of trying. Even when you try, things are not just working out.

Alright my friend, you know I have been saying this since. You have too much of energy. Why waste it!

So, how do you make use of this energy?

Okay, I know some people will tell you to channel this energy, which I totally agree with. But.... I have actually seen people give crazy ideas about channeling. They say things like when you are angry break something, hit someone, shout, shout.. Just let it all out.

Well, it's fine to let it all out but you don't want to give the impression of being a crazy person. Do you? Of course not!

Doing all of those things is like surrendering to the negative energy, it means giving it power over you which should not be.

Here are few ways to harness that energy:

"Remember energy can neither be created nor destroyed, rather it can be transformed   or transferred from one form to another".

So channel it into doing things that make you happy, things that make you better or benefit those around you.

Sing: With that bulk of energy in you (and of course if you have the voice) you can sing songs that reflect your mood, angry song when you are angry, sad song when you are sad. I have seen people do it and it works and you never can tell you could win yourself a deal with a record label. Funny right? But it's possible.

Talk: Talking to yourself or to that your invisible friend helps you release all of that energy pent up inside you. Talking to that your invisible inner friend helps you calm down by making you see things in a better light. I do this and it works for me.

Pray: I'm a strong believer in prayers. When I'm angry or sad, I pour out the whole of my heart to God. Sometimes I cry while doing that. It helps make me feel better knowing He is up there watching and listening to every word I say. He hears all prayers.

There are lots of things you can transfer your energy to, just make sure you are doing your craft or what makes you happy.

If you are a writer, write as much as you can. If it a fictional story, channel that energy into the characters in it. And if you are tired, just sleep.

Sleep refreshes the body and mind.😉

And remember, that negative voice is only as strong as you let it become! 💪

Saturday Digest: Life of an Abeokuta Corper

I am a corp member currently serving in Abeokuta city of Ogun State.  Today I am giving you some major things I have observed since I was posted to the city to obey the clarion call. Well it’s more like things you need to know about the city and its people. Other corp members I have spoken to about these have also confirmed it. Yes, they’ve noticed these things too.  Topography This is not strange. The name Abeokuta literally means under the rock or beneath/below the stone, so one wouldn’t be surprised if the whole city is rocky. There are lots of rocks everywhere that I kept thinking Olumo is scattered everywhere not until

LOVE TO BINGE WATCH? HERE ARE FIVE WEB SERIES TO START WITH

G one are the days when the only place to watch series is on a cable network and local stations. Nowadays one is spoilt for choice with varieties of series on the internet, found on streaming platforms like Netflix, Showmax, Amazon prime video, Irokotv and so on. Usually watching movies and TV series is only possible with a subscription fee that is mostly charged monthly and some streaming apps, also offer yearly plan and then you need a solid data plan.  Meaning you get to incur expenses in two ways; a subscription to access the movies and a data plan to be able to watch the movies, which to some people is a total waste of money, especially in places like Nigeria where data plans are still very expensive. In recent times, there has been an upsurge of alternatives to the series on subscription-based platforms called web series. As the internet involves and the demands of consumers increased so as the contents being churned out refined. These days you can watch quality movies and serie
