Story: Continuation

"How do I look mum?"
Bukky asked after reemerging from her room the second time in two hours that afternoon.

"You look better dear. This dress is far more decent than the other two you'd worn."
Her mum smiled at her before returning to the story she was reading on the newspaper.

"Mummy, why don't you tell her the truth. There's nothing better in what she's putting  on now. She doesn't even have any decent cloth in her wardrobe."
Her younger brother, Dimeji put in after a quick glance at her. His attention was back to the new game console he just bought.

Heys, Coconut head, who asked your opinion in this matter. Or what do you even know about dresses and decency? The only thing you know about is ball and that stupid thing you are holding. Bukky slammed back at him.
"E dey pain you sha. All I know is repent for the K...." "Idiot, is it me you're telling that one.."
Bukky cut her brother short and reached for a book on the table and threw it at him. Dimeji saw it coming and dodged it before it got to him.

"Stop it the both of you!" Their mother scolded. Mrs Titilope Olajide had ignored them when they started but couldn't any longer. They'd always been like that since childhood. Her Tom and Jerry. And even now only little had changed about their fights.
"Alright Bukky, where are your bags? Get them and start leaving, it's already getting late. You don't want me to change my mind."

She rolled her eyes. "Mummy, It's just few minutes past twelve. She smiled. Her mother must not see her rolling her eyes at her or it will be another scolding session which might last for another hour and she couldn't risk that now. Her mother was right she needed to set out early so she could get to her destination on time.

Titi was still scanning for another major news when her eyes strayed to the student section of the daily and caught the bold headline. 400 level student found dead at home. Just above the  main story was the picture of the girl that was once her patient. She gasped, the paper dropped from her and scattered on the rugged floor. This was someone she had spoken to few days ago. What had happened? Why did she let go so easily? "Why!" She felt gutted.
"Are you alright mum?" Bukky noticed her mother's sudden mood swing. Dimeji discarded his games and rushed to his mum.
"Is it the headache again?" Looking worried. "See Dimeji, pick those papers up and arrange them. I think mum just need to rest or maybe she's already missing me."
"For your mind..." He bent down to pick the papers when a headline on one of the papers flashed him in the face.
"Bukky, is this not Aunty...." She snatched it from him before he could complete the sentence. She cut her breath when she saw the photograph bellow the headline. "No, this...can't be."

Stay tuned!😊
